Dining and Drinking

There are plenty of restaurants to satisfy all cheap spring break budgets. From fast food to fine dining, South Padre offers it all. The legal drinking age in Texas is 21-years-old. Most bars will allow entry for spring break students who are 18. Some hotels require at least one person to be 18-years or older for check-in.

Dress Code

Technically, there isn't one during this cheap spring break in Padre. Wear shorts, pants, sandals or shoes, the choice is up to you. The nights can get a bit cool and we recommend that you bring a sweater or light jacket.

Electrical System

Tipping

Every dollar counts when you are a college student on a cheap spring break, but please don't forget to tip the people who are good to you; bartenders, waitresses, maids and bellboys. The general custom is to tip 15% on restaurants and bar bills, $2 (US) per person for bellboys and $2 (US) per room/per night for maids.

Transportation

The town offers a FREE shuttle system called "the wave" that runs from 7am to 9pm. Taxis are readily available in South Padre and tipping the driver is not expected. Never share a taxi with strangers nor allow the driver to pick up additional passengers. Taxis during spring break trips never cost more then $4 regardless of where you get picked up or dropped off. Depending on your hotel locations, you may be within walking distance to many of the area attractions.

Most stores are open from 10am to 10pm Monday through Saturday.
